What is Code Point?
Ordnance Survey Code Point is a map dataset that contains postcode units for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, each having a notional geographical location to make up a UK postcode map. Postcodes are an alphanumeric abbreviated form of an address, widely used for navigation, delivery, and statistical purposes. Postcode units are unique references and identify an average of 15 addresses, aiding in precise location identification.
In some cases, where an address receives a substantial amount of mail, a postcode will apply to only one address and is defined as a large user postcode. This ensures efficient sorting and delivery by postal services. The maximum number of addresses in a postcode is 100, although this varies depending on population density and geographic factors.
